Monday Resolutions, Week Five

Okay, MUCH better showing this week than last. I cooked dinner for us three times, which is about what I would usually have time for. I did in fact go through the junk in the spare room, readying one of the large pieces of furniture in there to be given to a friend of mine. I didn't do wonderfully at keeping in touch with friends, but I commented on more Facebook statuses than usual. ((Side note: sad that something like that can be considered "keeping up with old friends," isn't it??))

This week,

  1. I shall begin pursuing more creative ventures instead of just grudgingly taking one photograph a day.
  2. I shall continue the trend of actually cooking relatively healthy meals several times a night.
  3. I shall NOT eat the entire box of white cheddar Cheez-its, no matter how much I want to.

Monday Resolutions, Week Four

(Okay, so technically, these are Tuesday Resolutions. I took some time off from the blogosphere this weekend...didn't visit blogs, didn't update my own. And since it was a 3-day weekend, I took a 3-day blog break.)

Well, of the three resolutions I made last week, I COMPLETELY FAILED at two of them, and somewhat failed at the third. *sigh* My first resolution, to not spend money on unnecessary things, was the one I only sort of failed at. MOSTLY I bought food and gasoline and such, but also I bought a frame for the print my husband bought for my birthday and a frame for a print of one of my photos that I'm donating to a charity auction. So not technically necessary, but not really frivolous either. Mostly a win, I'd say.

But yes, I totally failed at taking pictures of new and different things. I think I pretty much only shot flowers and self-portraits of my husband and myself together.

And I epically failed at actually cooking dinners for us. On Wednesday, I wasn't feeling well. On Thursday, we were out running errands around dinner time and didn't want to wait till we got home. And on Friday...well, I'd been at work all day and was just plain tired. So cooking totally didn't happen. I DID make breakfast for us on Sunday, which was good, and I baked cookies from scratch yesterday.

So, on to this week's resolutions...

  1. Since I so totally failed at it last week, I shall DEFINITELY cook dinner at least one evening this week, preferably more than one evening. DEFINITELY.
  2. I shall go through all the junk in the spare room and get rid of what is no longer necessary and pack up what is still necessary, but which can be kept in storage rather than plain sight.
  3. I shall make an effort to stay in better contact with friends and family and to make sure they know I care. Some bad news we had recently has reminded me that everything can change in an instant and that it is important to tell your friends how much you care for them.

Monday Resolutions Week Three

Well, I didn't do quite as well with last week's resolutions, ha! I did go through my shoes and clothing and weeded, but I have so far neglected to do so with my books. I think I only drank one cup of herbal tea all week, instead of one every day, and I definitely ate a few chocolate-covered cherries from the snack cache at work. But I rationalized those as being something special with one-time only availability, as opposed to the chocolate kisses that are ALWAYS there. So, uh, not entirely a success, but small steps, right?

This week's resolutions:

  1. I shall not spend any money on unnecessary things. Food, gasoline, medicines, etc, are all okay. Clothing, shoes, random knick-knacks...NOT.
  2. I shall attempt to take more and different photos than usual. Flowers and bugs and my husband are all great, but I need to stretch myself a little.
  3. I shall actually COOK DINNER on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday at the very least, instead of surrendering to laziness and simply going out somewhere to eat. It's healthier, cheaper, and will probably even taste better to cook at home, from scratch, with nice fresh ingredients.

Monday Resolutions, Week Two

Okay, here I go with week 2 of my Monday Resolutions idea. I thought I'd start with a little recap of my progress on last week's resolutions!

I did pretty well, actually. I didn't drink any Coke until Sunday afternoon. I hadn't had any caffeine yet and was starting to get a headache, so I downed an 8oz glass bottle and felt much better. :-) I was able to inject fruit and veggies into almost all of my meals, all week, which was pretty cool. I had one pretty bad day, on which I was just tired and in a bad mood, so okay, I did complain about some trivial things. But not much! Just the one day! So far, so good, right?

And now, to this week's resolutions!

  1. I shall go through all of my shoes and clothing and books and weed out those that I no longer need to keep around. The clothing will be donated, the shoes will be given to my mother (same size feet!) and the books shall be taken to Half Price Books in an attempt to make a bit of cash on 'em.
  2. I shall start drinking either herbal or green tea at work in the afternoon/evening, because the antioxidants are good for me and I enjoy the calm that tea invokes, as well.
  3. I shall completely ignore the heaping piles of "snack-size" chocolates inflicted upon our office by various well-meaning coworkers, but instead shall nom upon the dried fruit I keep hidden in my drawer.

Monday Resolutions

Oh, I just had the most wonderful idea, ha! Most people make grand, sweeping resolutions each year on New Year's. I've never bothered with that, mostly because I tend to believe more in living for the moment and going with what feels right, rather than setting myself year-long strictures; but also because I know myself and I know that I WILL break a huge, weighty, life-altering resolution by the end of a year, so why bother making it in the first place? ;-)

So instead, at the beginning of each week I shall set myself three small resolutions for the week, the idea here being that all big changes are made up of small changes. If I can achieve my small goals a bit at a time, the larger goal of a better way of live can be reached as well!

So here we go! Wish me luck!

  1. I shall only drink Coke when I am staving off a headache or eating BBQ potato chips (which I hardly ever do.) I shall not drink it on a whim or because grabbing a bottle from the fridge seems easier than pouring milk or juice into a glass.
  2. I shall endeavor to make at least one fruit or vegetable part of at least two meals a day. (Remember, starting small, right?! I'll work up to every meal!)
  3. I shall not complain about trivial things like bad drivers, because really, my life is pretty wonderful and few things in it are ever worth wasting so much negative energy upon.
